We visit the place where the legendary battle of Marathon between the Greeks and the Persians took place in 490 BC, that earmarked an important event for the history of Europe.

This is also the start point where a messenger was sent to Athens to announce the victory of the Greeks. It is in commemoration of this run that the Marathon race was established as a modern Olympic Games contest. We can also visit the Marathon race museum.

Moving to more recent history, other places of interest will be:

− The Marathon lake and its unique marble dam, which was the main water reservoir of Athens.
− The monastery of St. Ephraim a place of pilgrimage, which nowadays attracts thousands of believers every year.
− The Bread Museum, that was created in a renovated mansion and hosts more than 520 embroidered species with decoration from Greece and 22 foreign countries.
